BETHLEHEM, Pa. – One of Goucher's two wins in Landmark Conference play last season was over Moravian. Those two teams hooked up again today, but this time the Greyhounds had the advantage of playing at home and were able to pull out a 2-1 victory over the Gophers.
The Gophers (3-10, 0-4 Landmark) out-shot the Greyhounds, 10-9, but the only one that counted was a shot by Ally Metzger (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) that got by Moravian's starting goalkeeper Maura Acox with 2:15 remaining in the first half, tying the score at 1-1. Metzger's goal was the result of one of the six penalty corners Goucher was awarded and it was assisted by Sara Spadanuta (Hackettstown, N.J./Warren Hills).
The 1-1 deadlock held up until Kayla Carson tallied the game-winning goal for Moravian (5-8, 1-2 Landmark) with 9:14 left to play in regulation.
The Gophers came close to scoring a second goal on a penalty corner variation late in the contest, but a drive by Lindsey Frost (Columbia, Md./Hammond) was stopped by Acox, who had to go to her right to make a knee-high save.
