Manheimer Records Third Straight Shutout to Open Season
TOWSON, Md. – Gooals weren't as easy to come by for Goucher
today as they were in season-opening victories over Bryn Mawr and
Notre Dame (Md.). The Gophers managed only one today against Cedar
Crest after scoring a combined 11 times against the Owls and Gators
earlier in the week.
But that one goal, which was tallied by senior Marissa Copan (Golden, Colo./Golden) with 1:19 remaining in the first half, proved to be the only one scored in the contest as the Gophers (3-0) pinned a 1-0 setback on the visiting Falcons.
Cedar Crest (0-2) got off only three shots the entire game and sophomore goalie Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) had to turn only one of them away in order to record her third shutout of the young season. Manheimer is the first Goucher goalie to shut out three consecutive opponents since Dawn Greer did it in 1995.
Including the 17 shots they unleashed today, head coach Warren Prestwich's Gophers are outshooting their opponents, 78-4, so far in 2009.
