Unassisted Goal by Kramer Snaps 1-1 Deadlock in First Half
TOWSON, Md. – By definition, a penalty corner is designed to
offer an enhanced scoring opportunity to the team to which is
awarded, and today Goucher capitalized on penalty corners to score
two of its goals in a 3-1 triumph over Albright.
Both times the play started with Katie Gallagher
(Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) putting the ball in
play by knocking it outside the circle to Gia Thomas
(Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area). Both times Thomas
directed the ball back inside the circle to Allison Metzger
(Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh). And both times
Metzger whacked the ball into the net.
The first Gallagher-to-Thomas-to-Metzger goal happened just 6:49
into the contest and provided the Gophers (4-1) with a quick 1-0
lead. The Lions (2-3) answered at 14:12, tying the score at 1-1
with a goal by Gia Boscola.
Goucher went ahead to stay on an unassisted goal by Katie
Kramer (Alexandria, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) with
9:57 remaining in the first half.
On their first penalty corner of the second half, Gallagher and
Thomas again set up Metzger, who put the Gophers ahead 3-1 with her
third goal of the season.
Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth), who has played every minute of every Goucher game so far in 2009, made only one save. Her goals-against average stands at 0.40.
