one goal behind in a span of just over three minutes late in the
first half today and when neither team was able to score in the
second half, Hood had its first victory of the season, a 2-1
triumph over head coach Warren Prestwich's Gophers.
Early on, the Gophers (4-2) kept the ball in their offensive end and for their efforts they were awarded four penalty corners and got off four shots in the opening 9:36. On their fifth penalty corner, Katie Gallagher (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) put the ball in play by knocking it outside the circle to Gia Thomas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area), who stopped it and set up a shot by Allison Metzger (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) that produced the first goal of the game.
The goal by Metzger at 10:44 was her fourth of the season, tying her with Marissa Copan (Golden, Colo./Golden) for the team lead.
The Blazers (1-3) drew even at 28:31 on a goal by Brandy Noel and went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Jacquie LeMar at 31:46.
The Gophers got off a total of five shots in the second half, but couldn't put one past Hood goalie Anne Marie Hantman, who finished with four saves.
