Junior Makes Two Defensive Saves in 2-0 Loss to Shorewomen
TOWSON, Md. – Even with Barb Koziel (Holland,
N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) making a pair of defensive
saves for Goucher tonight, Washington (Md.) was able to find enough
goals out of a total of 15 shots to record a 3-0 triumph over the
Gophers at Beldon Field.
Koziel's two defensive saves were on shots the Shorewomen (6-4) attempted in the second half and were the 15th and 16th of her career, moving her up to No. 3 all-time in the history of Goucher's field hockey program. She now trails only Jeannie Gosheff, who concluded her career (1998-2001) with 17 defensive saves, and Jen Madera, who stopped 25 shots as a field player during her four seasons (2003-06) with the Gophers.
The only goal of the first half was scored by Washington's Kristen Wille with 4:30 remaining in the period. The Shorewomen added goals by Danielle Rosato (42:48) and Kelsey Kemp (56:12) in the second half.
The Gophers (4-6) were limited to two shots and Washington goalie Elena Nicholoff had to turn both of them away in order to preserve the shutout.
