Rangers Never Trail in 5-1 Win Over Gophers

Cadwallender's Penalty Stroke Produces Goucher's Goal
TOWSON, Md. – A penalty stroke by Mary Cadwallender
(Fredericksburg, Va./The Madeira School) got Goucher on
the scoreboard 11:23 into the second half, but the two goalies who
got into the game for Drew didn't allow anything else past them as
the Rangers handed the Gophers a 5-1 Landmark Conference loss today
on Beldon Field.
The Rangers (7-3, 2-0 Landmark) assumed a 1-0 advantage just 2:20
into the contest on a goal by Nicole DiBattista. Within a span of
6:47 later in the period, goals by Kati Eggert, Hannah Rau and
Natalie Fleming added to Drew's lead, which stood at 4-0 at the end
of the first half.
Exactly 1:00 after Cadwallender's successful penalty stroke, the
Rangers regained a four-goal cushion when DiBattista tallied her
second goal of the game.
Drew outshot Goucher, 11-3, in the opening 35:00, but the Gophers
unleashed 10 shots in the second half to narrow the gap. Lauren
Fasano started in goal for the Rangers and made three saves; her
back-up, Stef Rutkowski, turned away six shots.
For Goucher (4-7, 0-2 Landmark), Micki Manheimer
(Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and Ellie Brown (West
Chester, Pa./Henderson) evenly split time in goal and were
credited with six and three saves, respectively.
