Jones Prevents Last-Second Goal by Making Defensive Save
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Even with junior goalie Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) turning away 15 shots and sophomore midfielder Lindsay Jones (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) preventing a goal by making a defensive save, Goucher suffered a 2-0 loss to Washington (Md.) tonight.
The victorious Shorewomen (2-2) unleashed a total of 28 shots during the contest, but managed only a goal in the first half by Sara Rutkowski and another in the second period by Emily Trees.
The 15 saves is a career-high total for Manheimer, who has now appeared in 29 games during her three seasons with the Gophers (1-3). Jones made her defensive save in support of Manheimer on a shot by Angela Parreco just as the horn sounded to end the game.
