Metzger Picks Up Assist, Tallies Team-High Fourth Goal
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher became the third Landmark Conference member to pick up a win over Immaculata in 2010 tonight when the Gophers pinned a 2-0 setback on the Mighty Macs in a game played on Beldon Field.
The Gophers (3-6) tallied both goals in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead just 3:34 into the contest when freshman forward Eden Fitzkee (York Springs, Pa./Bermudian Springs), positioned right in front of the net, tipped in a long pass from senior midfielder Ali Metzger (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh).
Midway through the period, the Mighty Macs (2-7) were guilty of an infraction in the circle. On the ensuing penalty corner, senior midfielder Sara Spadanuta (Hackettstown, N.J./Warren Hills) delivered a near-perfect entry pass to Metzger, who brought the ball back inside the circle and knocked it in for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Junior Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) was stationed in goal for Goucher for all 70 minutes and earned the shutout by making four saves.
While getting off to an 0-6 start, the Mighty Macs also lost to Moravian, 6-2, and Scranton, 3-0, but they entered tonight's contest against head coach Warren Prestwich's Gophers riding a modest two-game winning streak.
