MADISON, N.J. — After producing only one all-conference performer in the sport of field hockey during its first three years as a member of the Landmark Conference, Goucher hit the bonanza this year.
The team, as revealed today in an announcement from the conference office, includes three players from Goucher: senior midfielder Ali Metzger (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh), junior goalie Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and sophmore defender Katie Gallagher (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional).
The team is comprised of 25 players, including at least one player from each of the seven institutions in the Landmark Conference which sponsor field hockey as an intercollegiate sport. The position-by-position voting was done by the conference's seven head coaches with 12 players landing on the All-Landmark first team and the remaining 13, including the three players from Goucher, being second-team selections.
"One of our goals this season was to have better representation on the All-Landmark Team," said head coach Warren Prestwich following the announcement of the select squad. "I certainly think the three who made it were deserving and I'm glad that the other coaches in the conference felt that way as well. The other thing that is satisfying is that the three players selected play three different positions."
Metzger was Goucher's only all-conference performer during the Landmark's first three years of existence, making it as a second-team midfielder in 2009. She supplied the Gophers with five goals and three assists this season to finish with a team-high total of 13 points and concluded her career ranked fifth all-time in assists (14) in the history of the school's field hockey program.
Manheimer was the starting goalie in all 17 games this season. She played a total of 1,168 minutes, led the Landmark Conference in saves (128) and posted a goals-against average of 2.10.
Gallagher led the Gophers by making three defensive saves this season. The 36 goals opponents scored against Goucher in 2010 is the fewest since the 1995 squad surrendered only 16 goals.
