Ruhlin Closes Out Scoring with Team-High Fifth Goal of Season
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — Justine Ruhlin (Cornish, Maine/Sacopee Valley) tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season for Goucher today, but not before the Gophers had spotted St. Mary's (Md.) a commanding lead in what turned out to be a 6-1 victory for the Seahawks.
Lindsay Jones (Cornish, Maine/Sacopee Valley) was awarded an assist on the freshman midfielder/forward's goal at 62:05. Jones sent in a cross which Ruhlin got a stick on and deflected into the cage to close out the scoring.
The Gophers (4-2) were limited to only two other shots the entire contest.
Susan Smith put the home team ahead 1-0 with a goal 6:24 into the game. It would take the Seahawks (3-4) more than 17 minutes to add to their lead, but then they quickly tacked on goals by Paige Decker, Lauriann Parker and Daniella Hanacek in a span of less than eight minutes to stretch their advantage to 4-0.
Parker's goal at 29:02 of the first half was the 36th of her career, making the junior forward the all-time leader at St. Mary's. She stuck another goal just :30 into the second half, putting the Seahawks up 5-0.
Goucher's Anneke Ossorio (Lafayette, Colo./Kent Denver School) made a defensive save on the first shot of the game, which was taken by Decker.
