DiLuca Accounts for Only Goal by Punching In Rebound
TOWSON, Md. — An unassisted goal by freshman Antonia DiLuca (Ardmore, Pa./Friends Central) accounted for all of the scoring this afternoon as Goucher presented Megan Williams with her first victory as a head coach at the collegiate level, a 1-0 triumph over Immaculata.
The win snapped a 12-game losing streak for the Gophers that dated back to last season.
DiLuca scored the goal with 11:18 remaining in the first half after a rebound emerged from a scramble in front of the net and she punched it in with a waist-high redirection.
The Gophers (1-1) finished with a 10-7 edge in shots and were awarded eight penalty corners compared to four for the Mighty Macs (0-2).
Both teams started freshmen in goal. For Goucher, Demie Huffman (Granville, Ohio/Granville) earned the shutout by making three saves; for Immaculata, Patsy Murphy was credited with five stops.
