CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Goucher came up empty on the four shots it managed today in its game against Wilson. The Phoenix, meanwhile, cashed in twice on the 14 shots they attempted as they turned back head coach Megan Williams' Gophers, 2-0.
Wilson grabbed a 1-0 lead when Maggie Sipps sent a cross right in front of the goalmouth and Tara Fields tapped it in just 2:33 into the contest. The Gophers (2-3) didn't fall any further behind until Sipps tallied an unassisted goal 8:14 into the second half, hitting her target with a long back-handed shot from the top of the arc.
Demie Huffman (Granville, Ohio/Granville) went the distance in goal for Goucher, making six saves in the first half and one additional save in final 35 minutes.
The Phoenix (3-2) started with Gina Weigold in goal and she was credited with one save despite playing well into the second half. She was relieved by Brandy Holtzapple, who prevented a Goucher goal by turning away a penalty stroke.
