MADISON, N.J. — Goucher experienced its second rough outing in a Landmark Conference game this week against Drew this afternoon. Just three days after bowing to Catholic, 10-0, the Gophers were handed a 7-0 setback by the Rangers.
It took the Rangers (9-2, 3-0 Landmark) just 40 seconds to take the lead in today's contest on an unassisted goal by Danielle Waleko, who also finished with three assists.
Drew's remaining six goals were scored by six different players. Sami Calabrese and Amanda Hearney both stuck their goals in the first half to provide the Rangers with a 3-0 advantage after 35 minutes; in the second half, goals were tallied by Bea Cannale, Sarah Charles, Jess Johnson and Taryn Murphy.
The Gophers (3-7, 0-4 Landmark) were outshot, 36-1, but Drew's Cjristiana Carlini did have to make a save on the attempt by Taylor Benzel (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) in the first half to preserve her team's shutout.
Emily Gill (White Hall, Md./North Harford) played all 70 minutes in goal for Goucher and responded with a 15-save performance.
Credited with a defensive save was Lindsay Jones (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School), who prevented a goal in the second half by stopping a shot that got behind Gill.
