Five Different Players Score for Washington
TOWSON, Md. — Four second-half goals turned a 1-0 halftime scoreline into a 5-0 Washington (Md.) win.
The only scoring in the first half came when Hilary Manion followed her own rebound, getting the ball on net forcing a defensive save from Shelby Cross (Dunkirk, Md./Northern). Cross, who had two defensive saves on the day, couldn't clear the ball past the wave of Washington (7-6) attackers, leading to a Heather Noto goal.
The Shorewomen held a 20-2 advantage in shots at the half. Keeping the game close for Goucher (3-8) was Emily Gill (White Hall, Md./North Harford), who made 11 of her 19 stops in the first half.
The game tilted in Washington's favor in the second half with the Shorewomen taking all 14 shots and earning all nine penalty corners in the frame. They received goals from four different players, two of which came off corners.
Gill's 19 saves is a career high for the sophomore goalkeeper and the most by a Goucher goalie this season. The team's total of 21 saves, including the two defensive saves from Cross, has not been bested by a Goucher squad since 2007, when Aline Haddad had all 28 stops against Susquehanna.
