DiLuca Finds Back of the Net for Goucher
TOWSON, Md. — The Gophers opened up the scoring on a well-executed penalty corner goal, but the Crusaders proved to be too much, earning the Landmark Conference victory.
Goucher (3-9, 0-5 Landmark) found itself in the lead for the first time in conference play thus far this year after earning a penalty corner off of a scramble in front of the net.
The Gophers capitalized on the opportunity, when Justine Ruhlin (Cornish, Maine/Sacopee Valley) inserted the ball to the top of the circle to Lindsay Jones (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School). Jones drew a charging defender before dishing the ball to her left, where Taylor Benzel (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) waited patiently. The sophomore fired a pass across the cage to the far post where Antonia DiLuca (Ardmore, Pa./Friends Central) waited, turning the ball into the cage.
Susquehanna (4-10, 2-3 Landmark) leveled the score just over five minutes later when Gina Palazzi scored her first of two goals from just in front of the net.
The teams failed to break through again in the first frame and headed to halftime tied 1-1.
Just over a minute into the second half, Brodie Ercole followed up her own rebound, putting the Crusaders on top for good.
Susquehanna added three insurance goals, one of which came with just six second remaining, to give the game a 5-1 scoreline.
Emily Gill (White Hall, Md./North Harford) made 10 saves, giving her double digit saves in all four career starts in net.
