Gophers Finish Conference Season With Loss to Greyhounds

All Six Gopher Shots Come in Final 7:19

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Gophers failed to find the back of the net despite six penalty corners and six shots, wrapping up the conference season with a 5-0 loss.

Moravian (7-7, 2-3 Landmark), needed a win to keep its playoff hopes alive and within 6:15 the team had a 2-0 advantage.

Catherine Duffin put the Greyhounds on top just past the four-minute mark, dribbling around her defender and beating the keeper.

Briana Van Buskirk doubled the lead when she followed up a save, which Emily Gill (White Hall, Md./North Harford) had turned away for Goucher (4-10, 0-6 Landmark). The rebound came to Van Buskirk's stick with a clear view of the cage.

Seven minutes later, Chelsea Grotyohann added an insurance goal shooting the ball high over the keeper.

Moravian tallied two more scores in the second half to give the game its final scoreline.

The Gophers had a furious offensive flurry in the final 7:19, taking all six of their shots in that frame. Four of the six shots came off of the stick of Taylor Benzel (West Chester, Pa./Unionville). Justine Ruhlin (Cornish, Maine/Sacopee Valley) and Caroline Less (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) had the other two shots.

Shelby Cross (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) made a defensive save for Goucher off a penalty corner after a ball got behind Gill.
