Freshman Goalie Makes Seven Saves in Return from Injury
GALLOWAY, N.J. — Goucher didn't allow any goals on shots taken during the normal course of play in this evening's game against Richard Stockton, but the Ospreys successfully converted a penalty stroke in each half to earn a 2-0 victory over the visiting Gophers.
Of Stockton's first eight shots, one was blocked, four went wide and three were on goal, but were stopped by freshman goalie Demie Huffman (Granville, Ohio/Granville), who returned to action for the Gophers after missing the past six games due to injury. But with 6:31 remaining in the first half, the Ospreys (6-12) were awarded a penalty stroke, which Nikki Moore converted to put her team up 1-0.
Another foul in front of Goucher's net with just 3:59 remaining in the contest resulted in another penalty stroke for Stockton. Once again, it was Moore who made good on the attempt.
The goals were the second and third of the season for Moore, all of which have been on penalty strokes.
While the Ospreys managed to get off 17 shots during the contest, the Gophers (4-11) were limited to only one.
Huffman finished with seven saves. Lindsay Jones (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) also made a defensive save in support of Huffman.
