Cross Adds Two More Defensive Saves for Gophers
TOWSON, Md. — The Pride were awarded four penalty strokes and, despite only converting on one, found enough offensive firepower to defeat the Gophers.
A relentless offensive attack from Widener (6-11) led to a 37-1 shot advantage and four penalty stroke attempts, ending in a 7-0 win.
Demie Huffman (Granville, Ohio/Granville) stopped two of the four penalty strokes she faced for Goucher (4-12), while Widner sent another wide. Huffman made an additional 15 saves to total career-high 17.
Shelby Cross (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) aided Huffman, notching two defensive saves. The freshman defender now has eight on the year, good for second among Landmark Conference players.
The lone Goucher shot was credited to Justine Ruhlin (Cornish, Maine/Sacopee Valley). Ruhlin fired a shot which was blocked by the defense before reaching the net.
