LEXINGTON, Va. – Goucher came up with its first goals of the young season today, but the first victory of the 2013 campaign for the Gophers will have to wait for another day as head coach Megan Williams' squad was tagged with a 4-2 setback by Washington & Lee.
The Generals (1-1) took a 1-0 lead before today's contest was even a minute old thanks to a goal by Lauren Boone. Noelani Schulmeyer tallied the next two goals, one 12:22 into the opening half and the second at nearly the identical time into the second period.
Washington & Lee's final goal was scored by Sydney Tomaso with 17:29 left to play.
The Gophers (0-2), who were shut out in their opener by Roanoke, got onto the scoreboard for the first time this season in the 55th minute when junior forward Justine Ruhlin deflected a shot from freshman forward/midfielder Lizzie Barminski past the opposing goalie.
Ruhlin picked up her second goal with less than two minutes remaining in the contest. Freshman Rachel Crain sent a long pass to the far post where Ruhlin was positioned and able to stuff it in from a yard out.
The Generals finished with a 17-6 advantage in shots.
