YORK, Pa. — The top two scorers in the history of Goucher's field hockey program were among the 25 players named today to the Capital Athletic Conference's Silver Anniversary Field Hockey Team.
The CAC, which accepted Goucher as a member in 1991, is entering its 25th year of intercollegiate varsity competition, and to recognize the occasion, it will reveal a Silver Anniversary Team in 19 championship sports over the course of the 2014-15 academic year. Each Silver Anniversary Team will feature 25 former or current standout student-athletes and the process which determined the make-up of the teams was primarily based on season-ending conference awards as voted by the conference's head coaches.
The Silver Anniversary Field Hockey Team is the first of the 19 to be made public.
Goucher's two Silver Anniversary honorees are Renie Amoss and Michele (Mohlman) Dombrowski.
Amoss, who lost her life in a tragic traffic accident in 1993, was an All-CAC first-team selection in 1991 and 1992. School records she established for goals (7) and points (17) in a game have not been broken and neither have her all-time leading totals for goals (23) and points (56) in a season.
The only player in the history of Goucher's field hockey program with more goals during her career than the 56 Amoss (1989-92) tallied is Dombrowski.
During her four seasons (1992-95), Dombrowski, who was a member of the 1994 field hockey team that captured a CAC title, supplied the Gophers with 60 goals. She finished her career with 144 points.
Dombrowski was the first field hockey player from Goucher to earn All-America distinction as she was a second-team Division III selection in 1994 as a junior and a first-team pick the following year.
Dombrowski is one of only four field hockey players to earn first-team All-CAC honors four times during their careers.
Amoss and Dombrowski have both been inducted into the Goucher College Athletic Hall of Fame and each one has had her jersey number retired by the institution's athletics department.
Goucher remained a member of the CAC for 16 years before leaving to join the Landmark Conference in 2007.
