TOWSON, Md. — Goucher broke through with two Landmark victories in 2014, including a triumph over eventual conference champion Juniata, and that progress was rewarded with a pair of selections to the All-Landmark team this morning.
Justine Ruhlin (Cornish, Maine/Sacopee Valley) and Lizzie Barminski (Ventura, Calif./Buena) each earned Second-Team All-Landmark accolades for the Gophers. Ruhlin was recognized for the first time in her four year career after totaling 13 goals and four assists for a team-high 30 points. Barminski, meanwhile, followed up on her 2013 Rookie of the Year season with six goals and four assists, both of which ranked second on the team.
These are the first all-conference selections for Goucher since Katie Gallagher received second team honors in 2011.
"I'm so proud of Justine and Lizzie for their accomplishments and for representing our program on the All-Landmark team," head coach Megan Williams said. "It's great that other teams are really starting to take note of Goucher field hockey and that they are acknowledging some of our talent."
Ruhlin scored in nine of Goucher's 16 contests this season, including a career-high four goal performance against Cedar Crest on Oct. 1. She also registered a goal and an assist in a 2-1 overtime victory at Moravian on Sept. 27, the program's first conference win since 2010. The senior forward led the team in scoring in each of her four seasons as a Gopher, and her 35 career goals are the fourth-most in program history.
Barminski fired in the game-winner in Goucher's win over Moravian, and that strike was one of three game-winning goals on the season for the sophomore midfielder. She picked up points in eight of the 15 games she appeared in, and led the team with 55 shots. Barminski has tallied 11 goals and 12 assists in her first two seasons for the Gophers.
Catholic's Maura Campbell took home Player of the Year honors to headline the conference's four major awards, and the regular season champion Cardinals also received Coaching Staff of the Year accolades. Scranton's Alyssa Fania (Offensive Player of the Year) and Drew's Michele Pozyc (Rookie of the Year) were the other award recipients.
