ALLENTOWN, Pa. — It took Goucher just three shots and less than six minutes to open up a 3-0 lead on Cedar Crest this afternoon. The Gophers added a fourth goal before the game was even eight minutes old and went on to register a convincing 7-1 triumph over the Falcons.
It's the seventh consecutive victory for head coach Megan Williams' squad. The last time the Gophers had a seven-game winning streak was in 1994 when they got off to a 7-0 start.
Annie Carter (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline) had a hand in the first three Goucher goals, scoring the first and third ones and assisting the one in between that was tallied by Rachel Crain (Charlotte Hall, Md./Chopticon). Kristen Shklanko (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) was awarded an assist on Carter's first goal and the second one was set up by Jackie Juarez (Glendora, Calif./Glendora).
An unassisted goal by Shklanko just 7:46 into the contest put the Gophers (7-1) ahead 4-0; an unassisted goal by Olivia Dickert (Montville, N.J./Montville Twp.) with 4:32 remaining in the first half made it 5-0.
The only shot Cedar Crest managed in the opening 35 minutes was taken by Taylor Osley and it was blocked. Goucher has now outscored its opponents, 21-0, in the first halves of the eight games they've played.
The Falcons (1-7) did get on the scoreboard7:42 into the second half on a goal by Priscilla Howell, reducing their deficit to 5-1. Crain made it 6-1 with the unassisted goal she scored with 22:00 remaining and Dickert closed out the scoring approximately four minutes later with her second goal of the contest.
Goucher finished with a 20-5 advantage in shots.
Up next for the Gophers is a Landmark Conference game against Elizabethtown on Saturday at 1 p.m.
