SCRANTON, Pa. — Goucher was limited this afternoon to only four shots in an entire game, the result of which was a 4-0 Landmark Conference loss to Scranton.
The Royals (11-1, 2-1 Landmark) became only the second opponent to score a goal against the Gophers in the first half of a game this season when Ryan Joes found the back of the cage 13 minutes into the contest. They had an opportunity to extend their lead with a penalty stroke late in the opening period, but Demie Huffman (Granville, Ohio/Granville) made the save.
Rachel Crain (Charlotte Hall, Md./Chopticon) accounted for the first shot of the second half, but Scranton answered back, this time in the form of a goal by Alyssa Whitman that made the score 2-0.
The Gophers (8-3, 1-2 Landmark) were awarded three consecutive penalty corners midway through the second half, but couldn't get off a shot on any of them.
Scranton scored two more goals in the final six minutes of play.
Goucher stays in conference play when it welcomes Catholic to Beldon Field on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
