TOWSON, Md. — Six different players tallied goals tonight for Goucher in its 9-0 triumph over Notre Dame (Md.). With the victory, the Gophers extended their winning streak against the Gators to 10.
Goucher came out firing as Jackie Juarez (Glendora, Calif./Glendora) lined up for a penalty corner three times in the opening seven minutes. It was on the third attempt that Annie Carter (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline) found the back of the cage for the Gophers' first goal of the night.
Midway through the first half, Goucher's offensive pressure continued as Antonia DiLuca (Ardmore, Pa./Friends Central School) and Lizzie Barminski (Ventura, Calif./Buena) notched goals 1:17 apart from each other.
The Gophers went up 4-0 when Rachel Crain (Charlotte Hall, Md./Chopticon) pushed a penalty stroke past the opposing keeper with 2:34 left in the opening half.
Goucher had no trouble scoring in the second half either as Juarez notched a goal four minutes in.
Goals from Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md./Maryvale Preparatory School) and Carter, her second on the night, put the game out of reach for the Gators (2-10).
Barminski earned a hat trick by scoring two more goals in the final 10:23 of regulation.
Liz Zengel (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) and Quiche Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) split time in the cage for the Gophers (10-5) and needed to make only three saves throughout the 70 minutes to complete the shutout.
Goucher sends off its seniors on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest against Susquehanna on Beldon Field.
