BALTIMORE, Md. – Danielle Johnson (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) and Ari Hooper (San Diego, Calif./Poway) have been the leading scorers on the offensive end during non-conference so why should things change with the start of Landmark Conference play! The duo each found the back of the cage to help Goucher College down Drew University 2-0 in field hockey action and open up league play with a win for the second-straight year and for the fifth time in the last six years.
Hooper notched her second goal of the week off a feed from Emily Postlethwait (Herndon, Va./Herndon) with 45 seconds left in the first quarter and the defense held up the remaining 45 minutes to earn the win.
Hooper and Johnson remain tied for the team-lead with 19 points. Johnson leads the team with eight goals along with three assists while Hooper has seven tallies and a team-high five assists.
Johnson now has nine goals and four assists for 22 points in her career with all of it coming in her last two seasons while Hooper has 10 markers and nine assists for 29 points in her career.
Washburn and Chatterjee both notched their first collegiate point on Johnson's tally while Postlethwait also had her first career helper to go along with her first career goal earlier this season.
Devin Brashear (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) made five saves for the Gophers in the win. It was her second solo shutout of the year and the fourth with two combined shutouts included.
Goucher returns to action at Widener College on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
