Goucher Field Hockey Has Three Student-Athletes Named Zags Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholars of Distinction
BALTIMORE, Md. - A program-record of three Goucher College field hockey student-athletes have been named a Zags Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Scholar of Distinction. Caroline Doll (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) and Jaime Roche received the distinction for the second time in their career, while Daryn Carter (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) earned the recognition for the first time.
Goucher placed two student-athletes on the Scholar of Distinction five times in program history (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018), but the Gophers had three student-athletes earn the honor the first time this year.
"I am so proud of these three student-athletes," said head coach Stacey Eversley. "They are making history off the field as well as on. They continue to lead by example and have earned this amazing achievement."
Doll, who also received the honor in 2018, is an environmental studies major. Doll has appeared in 45 games with 31 starts with three goals for six points and 32 shots.
Roche, who collected the recognition for the second-straight year, is a special education major. She has appeared in 12 contests in her career.
Carter is majoring in international relations and Spanish. Carter will make her collegiate debut in 2021-22 after this season was canceled due to CoVID-19.
The Division III Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year.
Carter becomes the seventh different Gopher to earn the distinction. The Scholar of Distinction started in 2012, and a Blue and Gold student-athlete has earned recognition a total of 15 times. Ari Hooper (San Diego, Calif./Poway) (2017), Samantha Klock (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), Celia Welsh (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016), and Elizabeth Weiner (2012, 2013) have also received the distinction dating back to 2012.
