RALEIGH, N.C. - The Goucher College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to Virginia Wesleyan University to open the 2024 season in a match played at the Meredith Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
The Marlins (1-1) scored twice in the first quarter, then added single tallies in the third and fourth frames. Landry Meyer finished with a hat trick for Virginia Wesleyan.
Katie Bloom started and played the first half in goal for Goucher (0-1), making two saves. First year Mimi Taff recorded five saves over the final 30 minutes.
The Marlins outshot the Gophers 21-5 and took 14 penalty corners to Goucher's five.
Goucher is back in action on Sunday, September 1 when it takes on Meredith at 2 pm. The Gophers' home opener is set for Saturday, September 7 against Southern Virginia at 4 pm at Beldon Field.
