RALEIGH, N.C. - Sophomore Charlotte Bloom broke a 3-3 tie with her goal with 1:57 remaining to lift the Goucher College field hockey team to a 4-3 win at Meredith College Sunday afternoon.
- Goucher's (1-1) first shot of the game came two minutes in as an Annie Bennett shot was stopped by Meredith (0-1) goalie Shae-Lynn Henderson.
- Henderson had another save on a Kaitlyn Bucci attempt a minute later.
- Charlotte Dyer scored for the Avenging Angels six minutes into the contest.
- Bucci had another shot on goal that was stopped seconds into the quarter.
- Just over a minute in, Zoe Mikles scored to tie the game 1-1.
- Meredith retook the lead with just under six minutes left in the first half as Megan Ingeniro knocked home a rebound.
- Bucci and Bennett each had shots on goal but Goucher trailed 2-1 at intermission.
- Goucher tested Henderson early in the second half as Henderson made four saves in the first two minutes.
- Bucci converted a penalty stroke 2:23 into the half to tie the game 2-2.
- Just over three minutes into the fourth Mikles scored again to give the Gophers a 3-2 lead.
- At the 51:17 mark, Maya Kirstein scored for Meredith to tie the game 3-3.
- Bloom scored just past the 58-minute mark with the eventual game-winner.
- Goucher outshot Meredith 34-16, including 27-7 in the second half.
- The Gophers also took 13 penalty corners to the Angels' five.
- The win marked the first win at Goucher for first-year head coach Megan Callahan.
- Goucher improved to 2-0 all-time against Meredith.
- Goucher heads south again on Wednesday evening as it travels to Eastern Mennonite University for a 6 pm non-conference contest.
- The Gophers' home opener is slated for Saturday, September 7, when they host Southern Virginia at 4 pm at Beldon Field.
