Gophers Fall to Avenging Angels
BALTIMORE, MD- The Goucher College Gophers (1-3) fall to the Avenging Angels of Meredith College (3-0) on Saturday afternoon.
Meredith College came out strong with a goal two minutes into the game. Katie Bloom recorded her first save of the game at 10:34. The following 20 seconds, the Avenging Angels attempted three shots. Madison Usher took the first shot for the Gophers with just over three minutes remaining in the quarter.
Usher opened up the second quarter with a shot 39 seconds in. Meredith's offense rallied with three shots to combat the Gophers attack. Charlotte Bloom recorded her first shot five minutes into the quarter. Madison Zubo followed shortly after, marking a shot on goal. The Avenging Angels notched thier second goal of the game at 26:32. K. Bloom ended the half with back to back saves that were five seconds apart.
The Goophers found their footing eight minutes into the third quarter with back to back shots from Alicia Reyes Romero and Ava Barnes. Usher scored the lone goal for the Gophers (38:25).
Meredith was on the attack in the fourth quarter, scoring their final goal of the compeition three minutes in. The Gophers followed up with three more shots from Barnes, Usher and Wrenn Harney. For the rest of the game, the teams traded shots, finishing almost even (6-5, Goucher).
K. Bloom recorded 11 saves with 60 minutes in net. Meredith outshot Goucher 26-15, recording 19 shots in the first half. Goucher's offense came to life in the second half with 10 shots. Usher led the team with five shots, Barnes followed closely behind with four. Meredith led with 5 penalty corners, compared to Goucher's two.
The Gophers are back in action on Wednesday, September 10 at 7pm on Beldon Field. This is the second game of a Beldon field double-header.
