Seahawks Dominate Gophers at Home
BALTIMORE MD- The Goucher College Gophers (1-4 overall) fall to the Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland (5-0 overall) on Wednesday night in a dominant 8-0 performance.
The Seahawks wasted no time getting on the board, scoring their first goal in under two minutes. Charlotte Bloom took the first shot for the Gophers at 6:08. Three minutes later, Madison Usher recorder her first shot of the game. The Seahawks finished the first quarter with another goal, entering the second with a 2-0 lead.
The Seahawks offense came together and racked up four shots in two minutes of the second quarter. Goucher's defense was hard at work for the rest of the half. With eight minutes remaining in the half, the Seahawks took five more shots. Katie Bloom tallied seven saves in the first half.
St. Mary's opened up the half taking back to back shots nine seconds apart. The Seahwaks did not slow down, racking up Seven shots came in the next two minutes. St. Mary's (MD) found the back of the net six minutes into the third quarter. K. Bloom had back-to-back saves less than a minute apart. St. Mary's took three more shots that led to another goal (40:22). The Seahawks ended the third quarter with another goal, giving them the 5-0 lead going into the final 15 minutes of play.
Both teams subbed in new goalies to start the fourth quarter. Mimi Taff checked in and got to work right away by having two saves in the first minute. St. Mary's was able to beat Taff three minutes into the quarter, and a second goal coming a minute later, the Seahawks still held the Gophers scoreless. St. Mary's scored the final goal of the game at the 51:26 mark.
St. Mary's took 44 shots in the game with 28 of them coming in the second half, compared to the Gophers four. Of the four shots, three came from C. Bloom. The Seahawks earned 18 penalty corners, while Goucher only had three. K. Bloom recorded 45 minutes in net and racked up 15 saves. Taff played 15 minutes and tallied 3 saves.
The Gophers are on the road at Lancaster Bible on Tuesday, September 16th at 7pm. The team returns home to face Sweet Briar, on Friday, September 19th at 4pm, where they will celebrate their faculty/staff appreciation game.
