Gophers Achieve Second Conference Win of the Season, Holding Juniata Scoreless
HUNTINGDON, PA- The Goucher College Gophers (6-6; 2-2 conference) defeated the Juniata Eagles (2-12; 0-4 conference). The Gophers held the Eagles scoreless on Saturday afternoon.
Madison Zubo opened up the offense for both teams by taking the first shot of the game three minutes in. First year, Ava Barnes quickly followed Zubo's shot with a shot of her own four seconds later. To end the quarter, first year Vivian Onunga scored the first goal of the game (10:52).
30 seconds into the second quarter, Caren Tabu took her first shot of the game. Juniata's only shot of the game came three minutes into the second quarter. The Gophers added three more shots in the rest of the second quarter. To end the first half, Goucher led the Eagles in shots, 7-1. Juniata recorded three saves.
Second half action came eight minutes into the second half with another shot from Barnes. With less than a minute left in the quarter, Zubo tallied another shot on goal.
Barnes added another shot to the Gopher offense three and a half minutes into the fourth quarter. Zubo scored the second and last shot of the game five minutes into the fourth quarter. Goucher saw the last action of the game with Zubo taking the last shot at the 56:30 mark.
The Gophers outshot the Eagles, 12-1. The Gophers were led by Zubo and Onunga each scoring one goal a piece. Barnes led the Gophers by taking five shots. Juniata recorded six saves. Katie Bloom played on goal for 60 minutes and recorded zero saves. Goucher took four penalty corners versus Juniata's one.
The Gophers return to action at Lycoming on Wednesday, October 15th at 5pm.
