Gophers Fall Short in Close Game with Blue Jays
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA- The Goucher College Gophers (9-8; 4-4 conference) fell short to the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College (8-9; 5-3 conference) on Satudary afternoon. The Gophers lost to the Blue Jays, 2-3.
Elizabethtown took the first shot of the game three minutes in. Goucher saw their first show of game 30 seconds later. At the 3:37 mark, Charlotte Bloom scored the first goal of the game off a penalty shot. The Blue Jays came back two minutes later with a shot. The Gophers ended the quarter with two shots coming in the last minute and a half from Ateka Owino.
In the second quarter, the Blue Jays took their third shot of the game. 30 seconds later, Laureen Otieno attempted her first shot of the game. Owino took the next shot of the game (19:48). Elizabethtown shot the next five shots over the course of three minutes. The Gophers had the last shot of the game on goal. At the end of the first half, both the Gophers and Blue Jays took seven shots. Katie Bloom recorded two saves compared to Elizabethtown's five.
The Blue Jays led the charge to start the second half. Elizabethtown took 10 shots in the first six minutes of the half. The Blue Jays followed those shots with their first goal of the night (36:01). Just 40 seconds after that goal, West took a shot as well as Elizabethtown. The Gophers ended the third quarter with a goal from Ava Barnes with an assist by Otieno (44:55).
Goucher started off the fourth quarter with a shot from Vivian Onunga. The Blue Jays retaliated back with a goal at the 47:03 mark. Elizabethtown had five shots within a six minute span. The Blue Jays followed up this offensive push with a goal coming in the last three minutes of the game. Onunga took the last shot of the game. To end the half, the Gophers took four shots versus the Blue Jays 19. K. Bloom tallied eight saves compared to the Blue Jays one.
The Blue Jays outshot the Gophers, 26-11. Owino led the Gophers with three shots on the day. K. Bloom recorded ten saves and was on goal for 60 minutes. The Gophers recorded four penalty corners versus the Blue Jays 22.
The Gophers return to action on Wednesday, October 29th at 6pm where they will haed to Susquehanna. This will be the last regular season game for the Gophers.
