Senior Guard Contributes 31 Points to CAC VictoryFebruary 6, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC — James Russo (Cockeysville,
MD/Dulaney) scored at least 30 points in a game for the
third time in 2006-07 tonight in leading Goucher past Gallaudet,
85-67.
The senior guard contributed 31 points to the Capital Athletic
Conference victory by going 11-for-17 from the field, including
9-for-15 from three-point range. One of Russo's six three-point
baskets in the first half provided the Gophers (7-14, 4-9 CAC) with
their biggest lead of the period (30-18) with 5:57 remaining before
halftime.
The Bison (4-17, 1-11 CAC) trailed by six at the break and closed
to within 42-38 on a basket by Sekoe White early in the second
half, but a .375 shooting percentage over the final 20 minutes of
play prevented them from ever overtaking the Gophers.
Russo, who tallied 30 points against Marymount on Dec. 9 and 36
against College of the Ozarks on Jan. 5, was one of four
double-digit scorers for Goucher tonight. Pierre Jones
(Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall College) supplied the Gophers
with 24 points, while Patrick Bailey (Rockville,
MD/Magruder) and Cameron Brown (Baltmore,
MD/Owings Mills) chipped in with 12 and 10 points,
respectively.
Jon Mowl and Jonathan Valencia combined to score 30 points for
Gallaudet.
With its second win over Gallaudet this season, the Gophers
increased their advantage in the all-time series against Gallaudet
to 31-7.
