TOWSON, Md. - Goucher didn't help its cause by falling 11 points behind Susquehanna in the first eight minutes today, but that deficit was quickly erased by a run of 11 unanswered points that produced an 18-18 tie. Momentum at that point certainly appeared to be on the Gophers' side.
But the Crusaders never did surrender the lead and, in fact, they went ahead to stay on a three-point basket by Josh Robinson with 9:18 remaining before halftime. In the end, Susquehanna remained undefeated in the Landmark Conference with a 79-62 triumph over the Gophers in the Sports & Recreation Center.
The 11-0 run that Goucher (5-12, 3-4 Landmark) went on midway through the first half started with a three-pointer by Cameron Brown (Baltimore, MD/Owings Mills), featured six points by Marcus Cotton (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) and concluded with a lay-up by Nick DeSouza (Washington, DC/Archbishop Spalding). But Robinson's three-pointer seemed to spark the Crusaders (10-7, 7-0 Landmark), who managed to build their lead back up to 11 points (45-34) by halftime.
Susquehanna maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the entire second half.
Robinson, the leading scorer in the Landmark Conference at 21.2 points per game, contributed 25 points to the victory. Joel Patch achieved a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Crusaders.
Cotton and Brown were the only two double-figure scorers for Goucher. Cotton had 10 rebounds to go along with 13 points - giving the freshman forward the first double-double of his career - and Brown chipped in with 10 points.
