MADISON, N.J. - A three-point basket by Pat Bailey (Rockville, MD/Maguder) with 6:31 left to play provided Goucher with its biggest lead of the game, a 52-46 cushion over Drew. But the Gophers would score only two more points the rest of the way tonight, allowing the Rangers to rally for a 61-54 Landmark Conference victory.
Following Bailey's three-pointer, the Rangers (5-14, 2-6 Landmark) reeled off 13 unanswered points, going ahead to stay on a free throw by Chris Lopez with 3:04 remaining. The Gophers' drought reached 6:22 before Bailey knocked down a jumper with :09 showing on the clock.
After taking the six-point lead, the Gophers (5-13, 3-5 Landmark) proceeded to miss their next 12 shots from the field as they finished with a .290 shooting percentage.
The Gophers trailed by as many as nine points in the first half before scoring the final seven points of the period to close to within 29-27 at the break.
Cameron Brown (Baltimore, MD/Owings Mills) and Darrin Boswell II (Philadelphia, PA/Joppatowne) both connected from three-point range prior to Bailey during a 13-7 run by the Gophers that started with the two teams deadlocked at 39-39.
Boswell (14 points) and Bailey (11 points) were the only two Goucher players who were able to score in double figures. Tim Merritt (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) was credited with a game-high nine rebounds.
Gerard Mullin captured scoring honors for Drew as he finished with 16 points.
