Scarlet Raiders Keep Gophers From Trophy

Alexander, Gladden Land on All-Tournament Team

ARLINGTON, Va. — Goucher's five starters were outscored 58-29 by their counterparts from Rutgers-Newark in an 86-57 setback to the Scarlet Raiders in tonight's championship game of the Marymount Holiday Classic.

Kyle Gladden (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) supplied the Gophers (2-8) with 17 points and Shane Yambor (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) added 10 points, but the other three starters were a combined 1-for-10 from the field and managed only two points.

By comparison, four of the players who were in the starting lineup for Rutgers-Newark reached double figures in points. Phil Barnes, who made seven of the 10 shots he attempted, finished with 17 points, DeShawn Singleton put up 15 points, and James Johnson and Tim Smith chipped in with 13 points apiece.

It took the Scarlet Raiders (9-3) only 5:31 to establish their first double-digit lead of the contest as Johnson's three-point basket made the score 20-10.

The Gophers trailed 53-28 at halftime.

Tim Alexander (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport), who tallied 14 points in Saturday night's 59-58 victory over Marymount, and Gladden were both picked to represent Goucher on the all-tournament team.
