Saints Prevail in First of Two Against Gophers

Gophers were handed a 93-65 setback by the Saints.
The Saints (4-4) tallied the first six points of the contest and never trailed. They took their first double-digit lead on a layup by Austin Griffin that made the score 14-4 after only 4:42.
By halftime, the Saints, who were 18-for-28 from the field (.643) in the opening 20 minutes, were out in front 45-33.
Griffin was the game's leading scorer and rebounder as he contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds to the victory.
For the Gophers (1-5), Kyle Gladden (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) finished with 15 points. He started out making his first four shots from the field before he missed a mid-range jumper late in the first half with Goucher down by only seven points. The miss ended the sophomore forward's streak of 16 straight made field goals in the Decker SRC as he was a perfect 12-for-12 in the Maryland Bible game on December 1.
Goucher's only other double-digit scorer tonight was Shane Yambor (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) with 13 points.
The Gophers and Saints are scheduled to meet again on January 2 in the first round of the Marymount Holiday Classic in Arlington, Va.
