YORK, Pa. — Four players from Goucher, including the top three all-time scorers in the history of the school's men's basketball program, were among a select group of 25 named today to the Capital Athletic Conference's Silver Anniversary Men's Basketball Team.
The CAC, which accepted Goucher as a member in 1991, is into its 25th year of intercollegiate varsity competition, and to recognize the occasion, it is revealing a Silver Anniversary Team in 19 championship sports over the course of the 2014-15 academic year. Each Silver Anniversary Team will feature 25 former or current standout student-athletes and the process which determined the make-up of the teams was primarily based on season-ending conference awards as voted by the conference's head coaches.
Goucher remained a member of the CAC for 16 years before leaving to join the Landmark Conference in 2007.
The four players from Goucher who earned a spot on the team are David Clark, who was the CAC Player of the Year in 1993-94; Predrag Durkovic, who earned All-CAC honors all four seasons he played for the Gophers; Bakari Ward, a two-time recipient of the CAC Player of the Year award, and Garrett Smith, who played here just two seasons, but was recognized as the top player in the CAC in 2004-05.
Clark, who has been inducted into the Goucher College Athletic Hall of Fame and has had his jersey number retired by the institution's athletics department, was a member of the 1993-94 team that captured the first CAC title in a men's sport in school history. He remains the men's basketball program's all-time leading scorer with 1,833 career points.
Durkovic is second in career scoring (1,643 points) and the all-time leader in rebounds (918). Part of the inaugural class of inductees into the Goucher College Athletic Hall of Fame, he was a second-team All-CAC selection as a freshman and sophomore, and a first-team honoree in his final two seasons.
The conference's head coaches selected Ward as the CAC's top player in both 1997-98 and 1998-99. He concluded his four seasons with the Gophers with 1,587 points and he had a pair of 35-point performances on the way to a total of 580 points in 1997-98, which is a single-season school record.
Smith set a new school record by grabbing 280 rebounds in 2004-05. He averaged 15.4 points and 8.7 rebounds during his two seasons at Goucher.
