Miles Equals SRC Record for Made 3's in 78-70 Win

TOWSON, Md. — A stellar 33-point performance by Kevin Miles (District Heights, Md./Gwynn Park), the third of his career and second in 2015-16, propelled Goucher to a 78-70 Landmark Conference victory over Elizabethtown this afternoon.

Miles made eight of the team's 10 3-point shots, tying the Decker Sports & Recreation Center record for most made three's in a game. He joins fellow Gopher James Russo and Amherst's Jeff Racy as the only ones to accomplish that feat.

His first 3-pointer came within the first minute and a half of the contest, giving Goucher a 5-0 lead.

In the next five minutes of play, Elizabethtown strung together a 10-5 run to knot the game at 10 apiece. Back-and-forth play ensued as the two teams traded leads three of the next four possessions.

A layup by Tre Galloway III (Fort Washington, Md./Paint Branch) with 9:27 on the clock broke the final tie (17-17) and was the start of a 10-0 run in favor of the home team.

The Gophers (9-12, 5-7 Landmark) extended their lead to 12 points late in the first, but held a 41-32 advantage at the break.

Right out of the locker room, Chris Outing (New Windsor, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) pushed in a layup. That would be the only made basket in the next two minutes of action for either team.

The Blue Jays (3-17, 1-11 Landmark) got back on the board with 17:03 remaining as Josh Eden made a layup — created by a steal from Peter Harding — to cut the lead to eight.

Though, the Gophers scored a basket in their next five possessions to not give up any ground, resulting in a 56-43 lead with 13:16 on the clock.

Miles' seventh and eighth made 3-point shots came within seconds of each other. The six points extended the advantage, 73-56.

Elizabethtown cut into Goucher's lead with 6:25 remaining in the contest but the home team held on for an eight-point win.

Outing had a strong game for the Gophers — recording his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Norman Allen II (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist) scored 10 while Ed Oliver (Adelphi, Md./High Point) notched eight points.

Four players for the Blue Jays scored in double figures: Dylan Krieger (16), Harding (15), Josh Eden (11), and Tommy James (10).

Goucher heads to the nation's capital on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off against Catholic.
