Dwayne Morton fueled Goucher College with a career-high 31 points in the game in a 73-66 loss to Drew University on Saturday.
Morton shot 11-for-17 from the floor, 3 of 6 from behind the arc and 6 of 6 from the free throw line to notch the most points in a game since Elliott Wiley posted 26 points against Catholic on Jan. 14, 2018 and the first 30-point performance since Kevin Miles had 33 points against Elizabethtown on Feb. 6, 2016.
The contest marks the first game that Goucher College is participating in NABC Coaches Vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge. Fans can make a donation based on every 3-pointer the Gophers hit or a one-time donation. The Gophers are estimating they will hit 30 from behind the arc in the six games in the month of February and are off to a good start after hitting six in the game against Drew. Morton powered a 23-11 second-half run to tie the game at 57 and the Gophers had a chance to tie it with a 3-ball at 60-57 with 3:38 left and 62-59 with 2:51 left, but a turnover and a missed jumper did not go Goucher's way. A layup and a 10-for-12 performance from the free throw line for the Rangers ended the game.
The Blue Jays enter the contest 9-11 overall and 4-6 in Landmark Conference action.
Elizabethtown is 4-6 on the road this season.
In their last contest, the Rangers fell to Susquehanna 79-68 on Saturday.
Bryce Greene leads the team with 15.3 points per game while Connor Moffatt is the squad's top rebounder with 11.9 rebounds per game.
Head coach Britt Moore is in his second season as the head coach at Elizabethtown.
Dwayne Morton has reached double figures in points in four-straight games, 8 of 10 and 15 times this season while posting his fourth 20-point or more outburst. Morton added seven rebounds and four assists on the afternoon. It was the seventh time this season he has hauled in at least five rebounds. The junior leads the team with 14.3 points per game.
Pat Goralski has posted double figures in points in back-to-back games, two of the last three and 10 times this season.Gabe Ceribelli has scored eight points in his last two tilts. He has scored at least eight points 13 times this season. He is averaging 10.9 points per game.
Goucher has scored over 60 points in four of its last five games and 65 points in two of its last three contests.
After Wednesday's game against Elizabethtown, the Gophers will play its next two games on the road before returning home to host Scranton on February 16.
If the squad can win the last two home games, it would finish the year 6-6 at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
