Gophers Fall to the Colonels After a Strong Second Half

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Goucher College Gophers (2-10 Overall; 1-4 Conference) fall to the Colonels of Wilkes University (10-2 Overall; 4-1 Conference) as they never trailed. The Gophers attempted to rally back with a strong seconf half but ultimately fell 78-61 in the men's basketball conference matchup.
- Darnell Morris Jr. has a strong start to the game with a 3 pointer in the first two minutes, giving the Gophers the early 3-2 lead.
- Timi Akisanya makes a layup from his rebound off the missed tip ball from Wilkes, bringing the Gophers within one point.
- A Colonels 16 point run was ended by a layup from Akisanya with 7:13 left on the clock.
- Jaydss Fifer and Jon Perry added points for the Gophers to end the half.
- Wilkes led at halftime 42-22.
- Morris Jr. started the second half with a two back-to-back 3-pointers in the first minute.
- Three point plays by Morris Jr. and Jack Murdaugh began the Gophers 10-6 run.
- With 5:36 remaining in the game Fifer finished a fast break dunk, bringing the score to 52-67.
- Wilkes held off Goucher winning 78-61.
- Morris Jr. was the lead scorer for the Gophers with 18 points. He also collected three steals and three rebounds in the contest.
- Fifer followed with 13 points on the night, adding three rebounds and one steal.
- Wilkes out-rebounded Goucher 46-29, and forced 16 turnovers, which resulted in 18 points for the Colonels.
- The Gophers shot 42.6% overall, and went 5-16 beyond the arc ,while the Colonels shot 43.5% in the game, and went 10-23 for three-pointers.
- The Colonels shot 73.7% from the freethrow line, while the Gophers shot 52.6%.
- The men return home to face Juniata College on Saturday, January 11th. They will be the second game of the doubleheader at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center, set to begin at 4pm.
