VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Goucher College men's golf team finished fourth overall in the Bay Creek Invitational in the first event of program history.
First-years Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas) and Evan Yue (Beijing, China) led the Gophers in day-two of the Bay Creek Invitational held at the Bay Creek Resort – a Jack Nicklaus designed course. Both men shot a 79 on Tuesday. Yue shaved five strokes off his first-day performance. Mikse led the team yesterday with a score of 74 – only two over par. His two-day total of 153 was good enough to finish seventh overall in the tournament.
Wade Howard (Weston, Fla.) and Steph Lee (Manalapan, N.J.) rounded out the scoring for Goucher on Tuesday. Howard finished with an 83 (164 two-day score) while Lee ended up with an 81-stroke day and 165 total.
In their first event as a team, the Gophers had four top-25 finishers and finished only 36 strokes behind the #23 Christopher Newport team. CNU completed the event with a 602 and placed two players in the top four.
Goucher is back in action on September 24th when it travels to Rocky Mount, N.C. for the Don Scalf Memorial Tournament.
