TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's and women's golf teams will return to action this weekend to kick-off their spring season, and the Gophers men's team is slated to finish third in the Landmark Conference according to the conference preseason poll, which was released on Friday. The women's team, meanwhile, was voted fourth in their portion of the Landmark Conference preseason poll.
Leading the men's poll was Moravian, who garnered 58 total votes and five first-place votes, followed by Scranton in second with 48 points and two first-place votes. Goucher comes in third with 40 total points, followed by Susquehanna, Drew, Elizabethtown, and Juniata.
Marywood, meanwhile, leads the women's preseason poll with 56 total points and four first-place votes. Drew is slated to finish second with 44 total points and two first-place votes, followed by Scranton, Goucher, Elizabethtown, Juniata, and Susquehanna.
The Gophers will enter their first spring of competition this weekend, as both teams will head to UMW Eagle Invitational in Stafford, Va.
Both teams had successful fall campaigns, headlined by a victory by the men's team at the Revolutionary Collegiate Classic in mid-October. The Gopher's men's team finished in the top four in four of the five events they took part in during the fall, while the women's team placed in the top four in all three events they participated in during the fall months.
The inaugural regular season for both teams will end at the Landmark Conference Championships. The women's team will head to the Susquehanna Valley Country Club for their portion of the Landmark Championships from April 28 through the 29th hosted by Susquehanna, while the next weekend (May 5-6) the men's team will head to Glenmaura Country Club for the first Landmark Championship hosted by Scranton.
