BALTIMORE, Md. – Head coach Hunter Brown has announced his 2019 Goucher College men's golf fall schedule. The schedule is highlighted by three new tournaments and three returning tournaments to the slate.
"I'm very excited about our third competitive season," said Brown. "When we launched the program we had a four-year goal of becoming a Top-25 team and national contender and every year so far we've taken steps towards that goal. I'm hopeful that we can make some more leaps this year."
The Gophers will open the season at the Inaugural Spartans Invitational on September 7-8 at the Manchester Golf Course in York, Pennsylvania.
The squad will then head to three-straight tournaments its competed in last season, starting with the Don Scalf Invitational hosted by North Carolina Wesleyan at the Belmont Lake Golf Course on September 22-23. The squad will then play at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic at The Bridges Golf Course in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania on September 28-29. It will be the third-straight season Goucher will participate in the North Carolina Wesleyan event and the second time for the Mason-Dixon Invitational.
For the second-straight year, the Gophers will participate in the Landmark Conference Fall Preview at the Scotch Valley Country Club in Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on October 6. The event will be one round and will be played on the same course the Landmark Conference Men's Golf Championships will take place in the spring.
"The fall is the crucial time for us to make mechanical changes, implement them in tournament play, and prepare to peak in the spring," said Brown. "We have a great lineup of fall events and I'm looking forward to seeing the guys continue to develop."
Sophomore Julian Gonzalez (Heredia, Costa Rica/Berkeley Academy) excelled in the three tournaments in the fall, finishing third at the Don Scalf Invitational, second at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic before winning and helping the team to the team championship at the Landmark Conference Fall Preview.
The team will wrap up the fall with its first appearance in the Stevenson Fall Invitational at the Piney Branch Golf Course in Upperco, Maryland, on October 10 before competing in the Franklin & Marshall Fall Invitational at the Bent Creek Country Club in Lititz, Pennsylvania, on October 15 for the first time in team history.
