Gallegos Honored as Landmark Men's Golf Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - First year Jose Maria Gallegos (Ahome, Mexico/Montverde Academy) of the Goucher College men's golf team was selected as the Landmark Conference men's golf Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after his performance in the Marlins Invitational.

Gallegos finished in a three-way tie for first place at the tournament hosted by Virginia Wesleyan at Cypress Point Country Club over the weekend.  He posted a two-day score of 159 and eventually finished second in the three-way playoff.  His efforts helped lead the Gophers to the tournament's team title as their two-day score of 651 was 10 strokes better than second place North Carolina Wesleyan.

In nine rounds this season, Gallegos has posted a stroke average of 79.8.

Goucher returns to action this weekend at the Cardinals Classic in Hagerstown, Md. at Black Rock Golf Course.
