Lacrosse Teams Begin Chase of Landmark Titles

Top-Seeded Men Host Susquehanna Wednesday in Semifinals

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher is the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference Men’s Lacrosse Championship for the third consecutive year and head coach Kyle Hannan’s Gophers will begin defense of their 2010 Landmark title when they host Susquehanna in a semifinal on Wednesday.

The Gophers and fourth-seeded Crusaders will battle on the grass field inside Gopher Stadium, beginning at 4 p.m.

It is Landmark Conference policy to charge admission to all playoff games. Admission prices are: $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors and students from non-Landmark schools who show current school ID. Students from Landmark schools (with current school ID) and children up to the age of 10 will be admitted free.

Wednesday’s other semifinal matches second-seeded Scranton and Catholic, the No. 3 seed. The winners of the two semifinals will meet Saturday for the 2011 Landmark Conference championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III postseason tournament.

Goucher, the only team which has made an appearance in each of the tournaments during the Landmark’s four-year existence, defeated Susquehanna, 10-6, back on April 2. The score was tied at 6-6 heading into the fourth quarter where the Gophers clearly dominated and used a 19-4 advantage in shots to score four unanswered goals.

Goucher also gained entry into the four-team Landmark Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship where, as the No. 4 seed, the Gophers will take on top-seeded and three-time defending champion Catholic in the semifinals.

The Gophers will face the Cardinals at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Washington, D.C. Catholic is 6-0 against Goucher since the formation of the Landmark Conference, including a 18-8 victory back on April 9.

The other semifinal pits third-seeded Scranton against Drew, the No. 2 seed.
