Boncaro Contributes Seven Goals, Two Assists to Victory

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Fifteen different players got into the scoring act for Goucher this afternoon by contributing at least one goal or an assist to a 27-7 season-opening triumph over Southwestern (Texas).

The 27 goals equal the school record for most goals in a game established against Lycoming in 1997 and achieved again against Wooster in 2001.

Kyle Boncaro (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) got the scoring started by sticking two goals just seven seconds apart to provide the Gophers (1-0) with a 2-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest. The senior attackman accounted for four of the 10 goals head coach Kyle Hannan's squad tacked on during the second period on the way to a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Boncaro assisted a goal by Zachary Fratella (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) 2:53 into the third quarter before the Pirates (0-1) got on the scoreboard for the first time on a goal by Tyler Downing.

Boncaro finished with seven goals and three assists. Rory Averett (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) and George Skelos (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) both supplied the Gophers with three goals; Alex Malinowski (Bowleys Quarters, Md./Boys' Latin), Matt Lynch (Ivyland, Pa./LaSalle College), Max Roach (Austin, Texas/Austin) and John Curry (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) all tallied two goals in the victory.

Downing and Carter Cowan both scored twice for Southwestern.

The Gophers outshot the Pirates, 54-10.
