Annunziato Ties School Record with Seven-Assist Effort

JACKSON, Miss. — Conner Annunziato (West Chester, Pa./Bayerd Rustin) tied the single-game school record for assists when he had a hand in 10 of Goucher's goals in tonight's season-opening 17-5 triumph over Millsaps.

The junior attackman scored three times and set up seven more goals, matching the record of seven assists established by Tim Asher against Lycoming on March 1, 1997.

Despite an 18-0 advantage in shots, the Gophers (1-0) were up only 2-0 after one quarter, but by halftime, their lead had ballooned to 10-2.

Sam Morgan (Wilmot, N.H./Kearsarge Regional) matched Annunziato's five-point effort as he contributed four goals and an assist to the win. Ruel Ellis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) scored twice for Goucher and Pierce Bailey (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) added a goal and a pair of assists.

The Gophers finished with a 59-21 edge in shots and came up with 39 ground balls, eight more than the Majors (0-3).

Of the three players who took faceoffs for Goucher, Tristan Morris (Houston, Texas/Houston Christian) won the most as he prevailed in nine of his 13 attempts.

Starting goalkeeper Karl Wiszumerski (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) came out after three periods. He made four saves and allowed only two goals before being replaced in goal by Matt Messerle (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford).

Riley McLean played all 60 minutes in goal for Millsaps and compiled a total of 20 saves.

Up next for the Gophers is a game in Montgolery, Ala. against Huntingdon on Sunday at 1 p.m.
