Coach Kyle Hannan Announces Retirement After 39 Years of Collegiate Coaching
BALTIMORE, MD – After a distinguished coaching career spanning nearly four decades, Head Coach Kyle Hannan has announced he will retire from collegiate coaching at the conclusion of the 2026 season.
Hannan has served as the Head Coach of the Goucher program on two separate stints, leaving a lasting impact on the program and its student-athletes. During his first tenure from 2001-2012, Hannan coached 12 USILA All-Americans, including five USILA Division III Scholar All-Americans. From 2001-2007, 23 Gophers earned All-Conference selection in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC).
Since Goucher joined the Landmark Conference, Hannan has coached 35 players to All-Conference selections, bringing the program's total under his leadership to 58 through the 2025 season. He added to his accolades by coaching two players who earned Rookie of the Year: Kyle Boncaro (2009) and Jacob Morgan (2023). Morgan was awarded both Conference and ECAC Division III Rookie of the Year.
Entering the 2026 season, Hannan has won 154 games at Goucher for a .611 win percentage. During his career as a head coach, Hannan has amassed 241 wins.
During his time away from Goucher, Hannan served as the head coach at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, from 2013-2020. Prior to his tenure at Goucher, Hannan began his head coaching career at Virginia Wesleyan from 1994 98, before spending two seasons as the head coach at Colorado College.
Over the course of his career, Hannan has added three Coach of the Year Awards. His first in 2001 in the Capital Athletic Conference after guiding the Gophers to a 13-3 season in his first season. He was again recognized in 2010, after leading Goucher to its first Landmark Conference Championship. His final award came in 2014 while leading the Division I program, Mercer, in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Hannan's career has also included significant postseason success, highlighted by 23 postseason tournament appearances, including 16 conference tournament berths and seven national tournament appearances. Earlier in his career, while serving as an assistant coach at Hobert College, he helped guide the program to three national championships in 1990, 1991, and 1993. As a head coach, Hannan added four conference championships 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2021.

Hannan will complete the remainder of the season with the Gophers as they compete through the final stretch of the schedule.
