TOWSON, Md. - Six of Goucher's intercollegiate athletics programs launch their 2007 seasons this weekend and two of them will open at home.
The first sport which will get its season under way is volleyball as head coach Michael Bossom has his squad entered in the ASICS/Johns Hopkins Volleyball Invitational. The Gophers will face Salisbury and Johns Hopkins on Friday and Mt. Aloysius and Massachusetts-Boston on Saturday.
The men's soccer team will play a pair of games on Beldon Field in the Goucher College Soccer Classic. The Gophers, in their seventh season under the direction of head coach Gary Dunda, will take on Gallaudet on Saturday in the first game of the four-team tournament. On Sunday, Goucher goes up against Penn St.-Berks.
The fourth team involved in the tournament is McDaniel.
Also opening at home Saturday is the field hockey team. In the first of the eight games head coach Warren Prestwich's troops are scheduled to play in Gopher Stadium in 2007, they will battle Albright.
Goucher's women's soccer team will participate in the Bryn Mawr Invitational Tournament, taking on Lincoln in the opening round on Saturday. Tati Korba is back for her third season in charge of the women's soccer program.
A busy month of September for head coach John Caslin's cross country runners kicks off with the Gophers competing in the Baltimore Metro Meet at Oregon Ridge State Park in Hunt Valley, Md. Both races will be 5,000 meters with the men leading off at 10:00 followed by the women at 10:45.
